Governors Water Supply Program Status Update

Speaker: Matt Harper, GEFA

Friday, January 24th

Location: USGS Water Science Center (1770 Corporate Dr, Suite 500, Norcross, GA 30093)

Meeting Topic

In January 2011, Gov. Nathan Deal directed the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) to develop and launch the Governor’s Water Supply Program (GWSP). The purpose of the program is to align and mobilize the resources of the state of Georgia to assist local governments with developing new sources of water supply adequate to meet future water demand forecasts. Under this program the state is also developing ground-breaking demonstration projects that address the state’s most challenging water supply issues. The state is funding $10 million for two demonstration projects – an aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) demonstration project in southwest Georgia and a deep well study on the Georgia coast.
